Alberta Subsidies

As part of the Government of Alberta’s Climate Leadership Plan a number of grants and incentives have been made available to make renewable energy options like solar photovoltaic systems more affordable. Below are some of the funding programs that may apply to your project:

The recently announced rebate program for solar installation on residential and commercial buildings is currently still under development by the Government of Alberta, and is expected to be rolled out June 2017. The government has announced $36 million in funding for the program which is to be made available to fund up to 30% of the costs of residential solar systems, and 25% of commercial systems.

The Growing Forward 2 On-Farm Solar Photovoltaics Program provides funding for the purchase and installation of photovoltaic solar systems on Alberta farms. The program is able to fund up to 25% of the system.

The Alberta Municipal Solar Program provides financial rebates to municipalities in Alberta that install solar photovoltaics on municipal facilities or land. Participants are eligible to receive a rebate per watt of total installed capacity up to a maximum of $0.90 per watt.

The Alberta Indigenous Solar Program provides rebates for Alberta Indigenous communities and organizations to install solar photovoltaic systems. The program provides funding for up to 60% of eligible expenses up to a maximum of $200,000 per project.

The Non-Profit Energy Efficiency Transition (NEET) Program offers funding to non-profits and volunteer organizations for energy audits to determine opportunities to increase efficiency and reduce energy costs and environmental impact. The program offers up to $10,000 per organization.
